First Pole Sues for Auschwitz Compensation, Rzeczpospolita Says
Sept. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Warsaw resident Izabela Brodacka will be the first
Pole to take the German government to court over compensation for suffering
caused during World War II, daily Rzeczpospolita reported, citing Brodacka's
lawyer, Stefan Hambura.
Brodacka is suing for 6,000 euros ($7,300) for moral and physical injury
resulting from her father's internment in Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz
during World War II, the paper said.
Hambura is preparing for a number of other similar compensation cases, the
paper said.
Polish-German relations have suffered lately over the issue of compensation
claims because of the war, while some German organizations are planning to
go as far as the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg to regain
property lost after borders were redrawn in 1945.
